Aroma & Character

Da Hong Pao unfolds a multi-layered aroma that offers a harmonious combination of nutty and nutmeg notes, embedded in a beautiful roast. The first infusion reveals the full, mineral-woody nuances, accompanied by elegant citrus and oak notes and a hint of cinnamon. With each subsequent infusion, the tea develops a deep, long-lasting sweetness and a pleasant minerality, which is supported by oaky aromas. The infusion shimmers in a warm copper tone and the cup glows a rich ruby red – a tea with a full body and a persistent finish.

China Fujian:

Origin

Da Hong Pao is grown in the high altitudes of the Wu-Yi Mountains in Fujian, China. The steep rocky cliffs, the humid climate and the mineral-rich soil of the region provide ideal conditions for this tea. These geological and climatic influences give Da Hong Pao its unmistakable mineral and woody notes and make it a unique representative of the rock oolongs.

Specialities

Da Hong Pao, often referred to as rock tea, is one of the most precious and traditional oolongs in China. The tea plants grow on the mineral-rich, steep cliffs of the Wu-Yi Mountains in Fujian and benefit from the special geological conditions, which give the tea its characteristic minerality. The tea is produced using centuries-old methods: The leaves are heavily oxidized and roasted for longer and then rolled several times. The first infusion is traditionally offered to Buddha – a ritual practice that illustrates the special esteem in which this tea is held.
