Although Artemisia Annua has been used as a traditional remedy in many cultures for centuries and is even recognized as a healing agent in modern medicine, the plant may not be sold as food. The reason for this is the Novel Food Regulation, which was passed in 1997. All foods that were not consumed to any significant extent in the EU at that time were simply not included in the list of approved foods. However, this says nothing about the health or safety of the plants. Foods that are classified as novel foods must first undergo a safety assessment and be approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). A very time-consuming and cost-intensive process that is not worthwhile for anyone. Of course you can buy and consume Artemisia Annua legally. However, we explicitly do not sell it as food. It is only used for fragrance and decorative purposes.
