Aroma & Character

The infusion of the chaga mushroom has a captivating earthy, slightly vanilla-like smell, which is rounded off by a hint of woodiness. Chaga falls under the EU Novel Food Regulation (more on this below). Due to this regulation, we are not allowed to provide any information on the taste of Chaga, as we only sell the Chaga pieces for decorative purposes

Chaga

Origin

Our Chaga mushroom pieces come from the wild forests in the far north of Russia, near the Finnish border. The Chaga mushroom grows there on ancient trees. The harsh climate and untouched nature give this medicinal mushroom its unique strength and purity. Harvesting is carried out sustainably and carefully in order to preserve the valuable ingredients in the best possible way.

Specialities

The chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) has been valued as a natural remedy for centuries and is considered a true powerhouse of nature. Chaga is rich in antioxidants and contains a variety of valuable secondary plant substances. Despite its potential benefits, chaga may not be sold as food. However, it is permitted as a food supplement. The reason for this is the Novel Food Regulation, which was passed in 1997. All foods that were not consumed to any significant extent in the EU at that time were simply not included in the list of approved foods. However, this says nothing about the health or safety of the plants. Foods that are classified as novel foods must first undergo a safety assessment and be approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). A very time-consuming and cost-intensive process that is not worthwhile for anyone. Of course you can buy chaga legally. However, we explicitly do not sell it as food. It is only used for aromatic and decorative purposes.

Unfortunately, depending on the location, Chaga can often be contaminated with heavy metals and radioactivity. That’s why we only source our chaga from a location whose 2018 harvest was thoroughly tested in the laboratory to ensure that we only offer you the best quality.
