Aroma & Character
The infusion of Cistus incanus, also known as Rockrose, develops an intense, spicy fragrance, with lemony and slightly resinous nuances, that immediately reminds you of the Mediterranean nature. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to provide any information on taste and preparation here, as Cistus falls under the Novel Food Regulation in the EU and is therefore not allowed to be offered as a foodstuff. You can read below why this is the case and what it means. We sell our first-class Cistus explicitly for decorative or fragrance purposes only.
Origin
Our Cistus Incanus comes from careful wild harvesting in the sunny Aegean. There, the Cistus thrives under ideal conditions in its natural environment – far away from human intervention. This not only guarantees unadulterated quality, but also ensures that the plants are particularly resilient and rich in valuable ingredients. So you get a product that reflects nature in its purest form. This is ensured by analyses in the German laboratory of Fresenius – for the highest quality and purity.
Specialities
Cistus is not only a treat for the senses, but also a valuable addition to a conscious lifestyle. This plant is rich in polyphenols, natural antioxidants. In the Mediterranean region, it is not only appreciated for its unique flavor but is also used as a home remedy for colds. Although Cistus has been used traditionally for centuries and its ingredients are thought to have a number of positive effects on the body, EU regulations do not allow the plant to be sold as a foodstuff. The reason for this is the Novel Food Regulation, which was adopted in 1997. All foods that were not consumed to an significant extent in the EU at that time were simply not included in the list of approved foods. However, this says nothing about the health or safety of the plants. Foods that are classified as novel foods must first undergo a safety assessment and be approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). A very time-consuming and cost-intensive process that is not worthwhile for anyone. Of course you can buy Cistus legally. However, we explicitly do not sell it as food. It is only recommended for fragrance and decorative purposes.
