Aroma & Character

Blue lotus has a uniquely beguiling fragrance and aroma that is difficult to put into words. Floral notes go hand in hand with a heavy sweetness and a slight astringency. You have to experience blue lotus for yourself. The effect is also absolutely unique. This is why the blue lotus was already revered in ancient Egypt, not only for its beauty, but also for its calming and spiritual effect. It was regarded as a symbol of spiritual renewal and was also valued for its aphrodisiac effect. Remains of this sacred plant have even been found in the tombs of pharaohs, including the famous tomb of Tutankhamun. Blue lotus tea was a much sought-after drink among the ancient Egyptians. The consumption of lotus wine was also particularly popular. Blue lotus was first dried and then soaked in wine for weeks. The wine was drunk at festivals and rituals because of its psychoactive and euphoric effect – a real treat for body and soul.
In those days, the flowers were painstakingly picked by hand after months of growth. Today, you can simply buy and enjoy Blue Lotus online.

Origin

Blue lotus originally comes from ancient Egypt, where it was native along the Nile. Over the course of time, the beguiling water lily has also spread throughout large parts of Asia and found its way into countless cultures. Our blue lotus flowers come from Sri Lanka, where they grow naturally. After harvesting, they are gently dried and packaged to preserve their aroma and active ingredients as much as possible.

Specialities

Although blue lotus was demonstrably used regularly over 3500 years ago, EU regulations do not allow the plant to be sold as food today. The reason for this is the Novel Food Regulation, which was adopted in 1997. All foods that were not consumed to any significant extent in the EU at that time were simply not included in the list of approved foods. However, this says nothing about the health or safety of the plants. Foods that are classified as novel foods must first undergo a safety assessment and be approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). A very time-consuming and cost-intensive process that is not worthwhile for anyone. Of course, you can still buy and consume blue lotus legally. However, we explicitly do not sell it as food. The flowers are only used for fragrance and decorative purposes.
