Aroma & Character

Sencha Uchiyama unfolds a soft-sweet and at the same time grassy-fresh aroma, which is rounded off with a subtle umami note. The first infusion is mineral with a cooling tingle on the tongue and a long-lasting sweetness in the finish. A hint of lychee and apple lends the tea a delicate fruitiness which, in combination with the bright green cup color, offers a special pleasure experience. The second infusion, at a slightly higher temperature, brings out additional, stronger, vegetable umami notes and underlines the depth of flavor of the tea, while the sweetness and fresh apple notes are retained. A harmonious Sencha with a complex, mild aroma, ideal for both beginners and connoisseurs.

Grüner Tee Shincha

Origin

Sencha Uchiyama comes from Kagoshima Prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu in Japan. This region offers a subtropical climate with high humidity and mild temperatures – ideal conditions for tea plants. The proximity to the active Sakurajima volcano ensures mineral-rich, volcanic soils, which give the plants a natural intensity and depth. The interplay of soil conditions and climate gives Sencha Uchiyama its characteristic mineral notes and clear fruitiness in the cup.

Specialities

Sencha Uchiyama is characterized by the use of the Benifuuki cultivar, which not only gives it a particularly aromatic fullness and an intensely green leaf, but also an exceptionally high content of EGCG and EGCG3 as well as theanine. EGCG and EGCG3 are among the most effective antioxidants in tea, while theanine is known for its calming effect and at the same time promotes concentration. The tea is processed using the traditional Sencha method: The freshly harvested tea leaves are first steamed to stop oxidation and then gently rolled and dried. This process preserves the fresh, green color and the grassy, fruity aromas. The combination of Benifuuki and careful processing creates a Sencha that is both sweet and aromatically complex – ideal for anyone looking for an exceptionally expressive Sencha.
