Aroma & Character

The Darjeeling “Jungpana Upper” unfolds a rich, multi-layered aroma with honey notes reminiscent of an Oriental Beauty Oolong, accompanied by a subtle maltiness and the muscatel fruitiness typical of Darjeeling. The first infusion also reveals subtle, spicy hints of curry, which give the tea a unique depth, while the honey sweetness ensures a round, soft mouthfeel. The second infusion also remains harmonious and full-bodied despite the long infusion time. A third infusion is possible without any problems and continues to produce gentle notes. Overall, this tea offers an elegant, consistent aroma, which is expressed in a deep, full-bodied character thanks to the summer harvest.

Origin

This Darjeeling comes from the Jungpana Upper tea garden in the famous Darjeeling region, which lies on the slopes of the Himalayas. The mineral-rich soils and the special microclimate of the high altitude, surrounded by pine forests, mountain streams and dense vegetation, create ideal conditions for tea cultivation and contribute to the intense aroma of the tea leaves. These unique geological and climatic conditions are the basis for the unmistakable quality of this Darjeeling.

Specialities

The “Jungpana Upper” is a Darjeeling from the second flush (SF) harvest, which takes place in summer and is valued for its muscatel notes and darker, fuller cup color. The FTGFOP1 quality (“Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe“) refers to the fine selection of high-quality leaf tips, which give the tea its special aroma and fullness. The “Jungpana Upper” tea garden has been in operation since 1899 and is one of the most difficult tea gardens in Darjeeling to access. The tea there has to be harvested and transported by hand.
