Dark Teas / Postfermented Teas (Pu Erh, Liu Bao...)

Dark teas, also known as Heicha or post-fermented teas, are a special category of tea that develops deep, earthy aromas and complex flavor nuances through slow aging and post-fermentation. These teas, including varieties like Pu Erh, Liu An, and Liu Bao, traditionally come from China and owe their unique characteristics to a carefully controlled aging process—either through natural storage over many years (raw “Sheng” Pu Erh) or through intentional post-fermentation (ripe “Shou” Pu Erh).

With their slow maturation over many years, or even decades, they gain complexity and are ideal for enthusiasts of robust, full-bodied teas. Dark teas reveal a distinctive depth and richness: here, you can discover notes of wood, earth, sweetness, chocolate, nuts, leather, spices, or fruits.
