Aroma & Character

The 1970 Muzha Meizhan, carefully stored by Master Atong Chen for over 5 decades, is an exceptional Oolong with a soft, smooth texture and a long-lasting sweetness in the finish. The smell of the moist leaves is reminiscent of chocolate. The first infusion reveals notes of wood and figs, which combine harmoniously with Hui Gan (“returning sweetness” in the aftertaste). With each subsequent infusion, the tea develops a subtle smokiness, a cooling effect on the tongue and a finely tuned astringency that adds structure and depth. Later infusions reveal a subtle fresh cucumber note, while the sweetness becomes more pronounced and the smokiness recedes. This tea is a masterpiece of ageing that retains its complexity over many infusions. The ageing process has made the Muzha Meizhan Oolong incredibly round and harmonious in taste.

Schwarzer Tee, Pu Erh
Taiwan:

Origin

The 1970 Muzha Meizhan comes from the famous Muzha region in Taiwan, known for its high-quality, traditionally produced Oolongs. The subtropical climate and mineral-rich soils contribute to the characteristic depth and complexity of this tea.

Specialities

This Oolong, carefully matured by Master Atong Chen, comes from the Muzha region in Taiwan and was made from the Meizhan cultivar. The tea was produced in the 1970s and matured for decades, giving it an exceptionally round and harmonious taste and texture. The ageing process refined the aromas and perfectly balanced the sweetness, woodiness and subtle smokiness. This is one of the oldest teas on the market and I was only able to secure an extremely small quantity. A true treasure for lovers of matured Oolongs and a delight that offers a journey through time and the art of tea refinement.
