Aroma & Character

The 2009 Dong Ding Qingxin Tanbei, roasted over charcoal by Master Atong Chen , impresses with its round, harmonious aromas, which combine the sweetness of honey, vanilla and wood with warm roasted notes. The very first infusion reveals a subtle minerality, which intensifies with subsequent infusions. The finest nuances of cinnamon and a lingering aftertaste give the tea additional complexity. The roasted notes remain present throughout the infusions and are accompanied by a pleasant sweetness that lasts until the late infusions. In later infusions, surprisingly fruity raisin notes unfold, which cast the tea in a new light.

Schwarzer Tee, Pu Erh
Taiwan:

Origin

This Dong Ding Tanbei comes from the Dong Ding region in Taiwan, which is known for its high-quality Oolongs. Cultivated at medium altitudes, the tea plants benefit from a subtropical climate and mineral-rich soils, which give the tea its unique depth and complexity.

Specialities

This Oolong, masterfully crafted by Atong Chen, was made from the Qingxin cultivar in 2009 and then roasted over charcoal (=”tanbei”). The traditional tanbei roasting gives the tea its warm, sweet roasted notes and a pleasant depth without masking the natural aromas of honey and wood. The combination of many years of ageing and masterful roasting ensures a balanced profile with a pleasant balance between sweetness, minerality and spicy nuances. A tea that delights connoisseurs and impresses with its yield of up to 12 infusions.
